NXT Takeover Brooklyn II (2016) Preview

NXT Takeover: Brooklyn II

August 20, 2016

You know how this goes. I will provide a mediocre review, you read it, and walk away thinking that I’m an idiot and know nothing. Sold! I think I would have tossed in a pre-show match of Hideo Itami vs. Tye Dillenger. Hell, TM61 vs. Authors of Pain would also be cool for the pre-show.

Ember Moon vs. Billie Kay

I know so little about either girl. I have seen Billie wrestle, and I think she has a future, but this is Ember Moon’s debut, so she’s going to win, right? Fuck it, at some point, a person needs to lose their debut via cheap tactics. I’ll go with that.

Winner: Billie Kay

Austin Aries vs. No Way Jose

This is one of 2 matches that I am very conflicted on a prediction.  If rumors are true, No Way Jose almost got called up to the main roster for the draft, but they decided against it. Honestly, he’s not bad, but he needs more seasoning, and more importantly, he needs to learn to go 10-15 minutes in some big feel matches before being called up. It makes no sense to bring guys up from NXT who haven’t even been in a big feud match, and is still clearly developing, hi Nia Jax. I feel like I am one of 10 people who appreciate Austin Aries true value and I think he is one of the best in the business. The question is, are they planning on ever elevating Aries, or is he in a Tyler Breeze role where he is a guy who can put on great matches and puts guys over? I am guessing he is there to put guys over as they probably won’t see him as anybody worth investing time in on the main roster. That’s sad because an all TNA faction on the main roster would be devastating with AJ, Joe, Austin, and Bobby Roode.  I’ll pick No Way Jose and then move him up to maybe Bobby Roode for a feud. That’s how you improve these guys, putting them in with great wrestlers.

Prediction: No Way Jose (I am cheering Aries though)

Bobby Roode vs. Andrade “Cien” Almos

Sigh. Tye Dillenger deserves to be on this card. Maybe they plan on doing something with Cien, but I’m not sure how much of a future he has. Tye on the other hand is really a great wrestler with a great gimmick. Cien can be great, he has a ton of potential. With that being said, Bobby Roode is one of the few NXT talents that can go main roster talents and immediately shine. Roode is awesome, or dare I say, Glorious! I love that theme song.

Prediction: Bobby Roode and it’s not even close.

NXT Tag Team Title Match

The Revival vs. Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano

Both teams are fantastic. I have to assume that at some point, The Authors Of Pain get a world title match. So that leaves either this team winning, or TM61 eventually getting the belts because The Revival isn’t a face team in any sense. I am guessing that Ciampa and Gargano don’t walk away as champs. If they had more face tag teams, I’d even suggest that they start feuding with each other.  Ciampa is a personal favorite of mine as far as a guy that has a lot more potential than he is given credit for.  The Revival are too damn good, and they should win.

Prediction: The Revival

NXT Women’s Title

Asuka vs. Bayley

Is this the night that Bayley parts ways with NXT, by putting over Asuka a second time? Bayley is ready, she is definitely main roster ready.  That girl is going to sell merchandise. Watch any NXT show, notice that 80% of the girls have Bayley merchandise, and some dudes do too.  She should be money on the main roster. If they aren’t keeping Bayley in NXT, then she is putting over Asuka. Looking at the RAW women’s side, they could use her if Paige is out for any extensive period, despite my preference for Bayley to go to Smackdown. Asuka is main roster ready too, but the NXT women’s division needs time to rebuild, so she is stuck down there. I will pick Asuka here as I think Bayley has learned all that she can down there. Her promo with Asuka at the contract signing was really well done. I liked it.

Prediction: Asuka

NXT Championship Match

Samoa Joe vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

This is the other match that is hard to predict. Joe is a great champ, he’s the perfect gate keeper in the world of wrestling. He got the best match that Mojo Rawley has ever had, by far. Then there is Shinsuke who is an absolute star. This guy is so much fun to watch in the ring. He is a legitimate game changer like AJ Styles is, but much different. Shinsuke hasn’t lost. Joe has, but he just beat Finn to get the belt and retain it.  I don’t necessarily think either guy is going to improve in NXT. You put them on the main roster and both are instant top 20 guys. I loved having Joe being held back by 10 dudes while Shinsuke grabbed his nose and swatted Joe in the face. It is such amazing build up. Maybe they do a double count out or something. This has match of the year written all over it in my opinion.  We’re going to walk away this weekend with 2-4 possible match of the year candidates between this, Asuka vs Bayley, Dean vs. Dolph, and Aj vs Cena. This is a great weekend to be a wrestling fan.

Prediction: Joe retains in a way that neither man looks weak.
