Happy 9 Deuce 2017!

Hi everybody.  I have been staring at my PC screen for most of the past 16 hours.  I am fatigued to say the least.  As a lot of you know, I have been working diligently on a variety of things to do with my website, 9deuce.com.  While I didn’t get everything done, I will let you know what has been done, what will be getting fixed over the next month, and some cool announcements.

Fudge it, let’s do announcements first before people stop reading.  The first announcement is that this weekend, the public will get to see the newest blog feature to the site.  It’s called “Tales From the Plunderbund Consortium”.  I have zero input on this.  It’s a blog put together entirely by my buddy Eric.  Now, unfortunately, I wasn’t prepared to launch it for quite some time now.  I have excuses, some more legit than others, but I’m waiting on some final touches to the logo.  Aside from that, we’re all good to go.  If you like role playing games, or even if you like Lord of the Rings type stuff, I think that you will be in for a treat.  Hell, I’m not too crazy about a lot of that stuff, but this is actually really well done.  So that will be up soon.

The second announcement is that I will be adding a second weekly podcast to my rotation.  For the time being, it’s all under the Are You Not Kentertained umbrella.  As some of you know, my buddy Chris and I have been doing a podcast every week on Game of Thrones.  We both really enjoyed it and have been discussing ways to keep going.  So for the foreseeable future, Chris and I will be doing a weekly Top 10 type show.  We have a lot of horror topics, but we will also branch off on various other things, I’m sure.  I imagine video games, other films, TV shows, really, we can discuss anything, and that is precisely what we will be doing.

The third, and final announcement is in relation to my 9 Deuce Horror Group on Facebook.  We do 2 blogs a month, and usually the films are voted on.  We try to be democratic.  Anyway, for the month of October, I will once again be walking into Hell and doing 100 horror films.  To incorporate the group and any well wishers, there will be a daily horror blog.  The list of those films and questions will be out by the end of next week….I hope.  On top of that, every day, we will be doing a poll in the horror group, and the following day, the results of the poll will be announced in the daily blog.  It should be a good time.

As for updates to the site.  Honestly, I am trying to find ways to direct more traffic to my actual website and then to the blogs.  That’s always been a long term goal.  I have taken some optimistic steps towards that goal.  Today, you can go on your PC or mobile device and check it out for yourself.  It’s a lot simpler and more streamlined for a better user experience.  Yes, you can actually navigate the site on your phone.  That has been a HUGE hassle for me, trying to learn what to do and iron things out.  Please remember, I never took any classes in any web design, so I am just learning as I go.  The Wrestling and Film Review sections are pretty good at the moment.  The Podcast and Television aspects of the site will be getting my attention over the next few nights.  They should be a simple fix.  The majority of my views are wrestling and film based, so they got the prioritized attention.  PLEASE, if you find something isn’t working right, let me know.  It’s probably something on my end.

The other big thing that is a much bigger project is moving all of my older blogs from Blogger over to Word Press.  I intended on having that done, but it is beyond time consuming.  So I apologize for any inconveniences, but by the end of the month, I should have all of the film related blogs moved over, at the very least.  I am not looking forward to that.  The gallery will also get an overhaul I suspect.  I’m still not sure.  I really have no idea if anybody even looks at it.  If you ever look at the gallery, let me know, please.  I’d hate to waste time on something that nobody is looking at, or perhaps my presentation is awful.

I need to get a few more tiny things done and then I shall rest.  Please, take a few seconds out of your day to send me a picture of you giving me the 9 Deuce hand sign.  This weekend, you should see the season finale Game of Thrones blog along with the companion podcast.  For horror fans, we have Tales From the Hood coming out today, and tomorrow we should have Housebound and Honeymoon.  Yesterday we hit up the wrestling blogs.  And of course we have the Tales From the Plunderbund Consortium.

Finally, I just want to say thank you to everybody who either participates in the blogs, the podcasts, the Facebook groups, or just lurk around without ever saying anything to me.  I gotta give very big props to Russell and Keri because they do the blogs and podcasts damn near every week, and I know that they have much better things to be doing.  Without them, I wouldn’t even have much of a wrestling branch of 9 Deuce.  Also props to Steve for doing the long winded post PPV podcasts with me.  Then there’s my horror group that was started in the summer thanks to Kristi’s input.  With her, Chris, Teddy, Cece, Dom, Sara and some occasional contributors, that blog has been a huge success for me.  There’s all of my TV show people.  Without naming people redundantly, for Game of Thrones I have Chris, Jim, Kristi, Raylene, and Briana.  For The Walking Dead, I had Bitty, Bob, Briana, Eric, Cece, Teddy, Jessica, Chris, Kristi, and probably others that I am forgetting.  I have my harem of AHS ladies with Melanie, Kelly, Stefanie, Cece, and every once in awhile Tom or Kayleigh.  There’s the Orange is the New Black with Jamie, Kristi, Cece, Melanie, and Kelly.  The Santa Clarita Diet girls including Bri, Kristi, Cece, and Melanie.  The Stranger Things crew with Jennifer, Sandra, Thomas, Bri, Raylene, and Jim.  Thank you to Eric for proving me with connections to a large portion of the talented people that help, plus the Plunderbund blog.  Thank you to Sara for getting her 10 year old son, Thomas, to not only do some horror blogs, but also have him do a podcast with Russ and I.  A huge thank you to Jay because he’s really the reason why this is even a thing.  Without him giving me pep talks and guiding me through this mess, none of this happens, so major props to him.  I am positive that I am leaving out some people, but in my defense, we all know that my memory is awful.  So please yell at me in a comment if you want.

Hopefully there will be a blog on Wentworth this month, and Stranger Things returns in late October.  I still owe people some blogs and favors.  Yeah, I am aware of some of those at the very least that I have inadvertently put off.

Now, I will shut up and enjoy the day.  Find yourself a copy of Dr. Dre’s “Dre Day” and listen to the end so you can hear him say 9 Deuce.  You’ll feel great.

Orange Is The New Black Season 5 – 9 Deuce Discussion

Here we go again with season 5 Orange is the New Black 9 Deuce discussion.   I wrangled up some lovely ladies who were willing to spare some valuable free time to help me out with this.  You can play along at home and leave a comment with your responses to these questions.  I am Kent, and I am the only male in this discussion, so expect lots of conflicting perspectives.  I have chosen not to leave any comments.  Sometimes it’s nice for me to just shut my mouth.

Please check us out at facebook.com/9deuceblog , on Twitter @official9deuce, or Instagram at Official9Deuce.  Share this, like this, write us an email with a question at kent@9deuce.com.  Thank you.

  1. Daya ended up shooting Humps, and he died eventually from it.  Do you think that Daya will remain a main character moving forward or was that their way of pushing her to the side, or possibly finishing her story overall?

Kristi: I think she will be back. I think Suzanne will mention something along the lines of the otger girls tampering wih the oxygen that ultimatley led to his demise.

Melanie:   I don’t think we have seen the last of her, but I don’t think she will play such an integral part again.

Cece: It’s definitely possible that they could be finishing her off. But, I’m not quite sure that’s the case.

Jamie:  I think they will keep her around there is still more to learn about Bennett and the baby if it ends up with pornstaches mom

Kent:  Well, we all know that I despise this character, so I am hopeful that she is more or less written out.  There may be a scene here and there with Alieda or Pornstache, but I think she is out as a main character.

  1.  Let’s face it, Tastee blew the deal, but may not be the one most responsible.  Who do you blame for the deal failing through?

Kristi:  I liked Tastee a lot more this episode but I do blame her for it. I get that she wants justice for Poussey but she let down the entire prision by her selfishness

Melanie:  Whoever requested the Flaming Hot Cheetos and Takis (maybe Cindy). Although it was pure comedic gold, it really showed they weren’t serious in their demands or intentions.

Cece: Honestly, I can’t really blame much of anyone. Everyone had their own way they were handling things and it was impossible to have gotten all the ladies together to get things right.

Jamie:  She should’ve taken the deal. If Caputo could truly get to her and explain why C.O. Bailey shouldn’t be charged because of the lack of training and letting Piscatella run the place. I blame crazy eyes for going her normal crazy and everyone was already riled up

Kent:  The shit system caused all sorts of pain and suffering, and that would be a simple answer.  For me, I blame Tastee, and I will elaborate.  If you are the leader of a group of any kind, you should have the best interests of the group in mind, not just your personal vendetta, or not what your friends think is cool.  Nope, you are the representative, so fucking represent.  This coming from a guy who did lots of student government and managed to piss off some friends along the way.  Tastee had everything that she could reasonably get.  There’s no bringing Poussey back, and it sounded like the hiring practices would improve, which is a bigger and better justice than getting Bayley.  This was some straight up short-sightedness.

  1.  In episode 9, you know the greatest episode ever, we get more of Red’s backstory.  What purpose did that story serve in relation to what was happening in the present?

Kristi:  I think it showed us just how hard it was for her. With her losing her friend and her fight for freedom. As far as the purpose, I think it was important for us to know her backstory for us to see why she was fighting so hard for her friends.

Melanie:  She detested people in power who made people suffer when they were already suffering.

Cece: I honestly did not see it serving much of any purpose, to be honest. Maybe that she has a heart deep down?

Jamie:  she had a sense that Piscatella was there and people were Missing just like she had a sense of people coming up missing in that episode

Kent:  Lawdy, that F’N episode just made me so happy.  As a horror guy, I loved the hunting of the women, I loved the ladies being scared, the phone call with Cindy, Leanne, and Ang, and of course, Flaritza as the Shining twins.  Oh yeah, I need to answer the question.  I don’t want to steal other’s answers.  I have had a few discussions, and people have made good, valid points.  I liked seeing that part of Red’s story, but it didn’t really add to the present situation of that particular episode as much as most of the flashbacks do.  I have watched the season twice by the way, so I may be totally oblivious.

  1.  Name 3 characters who you found that you liked more during this season in particular.

Kristi:  Suzanne- she is a favorite of mine now. Taystee- I enjoyed seeing her backstory. I also felt for her, as I know what its like to lose a close friend. Nicky- She was never on my list of someone I liked but i felt like she stepped uo her game this season. She stayed clean and helped Red when she really needed her.

Melanie:  Blanca, Morello, Pennsatucky

Cece:  Frieda, Alison, and Gloria.

Jamie:  Blanca, Big Boo, Gloria

Kent:  Boo, Nicky, and Piscatella or Fig..tough.  I’m cheating.

  1.  Name 3 characters who you were less enamored with during this season.

Kristi:  Lorna- I used to like her crazy ass but the was she did Nicky was shitty. Also not giving Suzanne her meds was f’d up. I realize it was a mental thing on her part but it still pissed me off.

Doggett- She was not her feisty self. She was too concerns for the donut dude.

Leanne- No one should be messing with Suzanne!

Melanie:  Piper, Leanne, and Angie

Cece:  Daya, Lorna, Maria.

Jamie:  Daya, Vause, Yoga

Kent:  Maria, Red, Taystee

  1.  Give me your thoughts on how the Judy King plot played out during this season.

Kristi:  Honestly, I could have done without it all. She really wasn’t that relevant to me and the whole dog leash slave thing was pretty freaking ridiculous.

Melanie:  Cowardly, but I was shocked Tastee let her go.

Cece: I thought the part where they were sort of torturing her and using her was cool but like she shouldn’t have gotten off that easily. She deserves to realize what she could be going through and use that power to bring good to the ladies of Litchfield.

Jamie:  I loved when she went on the talk show like she was gonna own it and got served!

Kent:  I honestly hope we don’t see her anymore.  Her story really never helped the show, at any point, in my opinion.  I’m very sour on her.  The stuff that Cindy was saying though was making me laugh, so there was that.

  1.  Did anybody find it odd that the black girls were the ones with the most power, especially in regards to negotiations, but is by far, the least represented on the show as far as number of characters?

Kristi:  Not at all. I think it was just their time to be in the spotlight.

Melanie:  Not really

Cece: This is interesting. Those ladies are by far my favorite group of people, as they are super empowering and also fight for what’s right. I do believe they need more allies.

Jamie:  I didn’t find it odd at all Tasty has a presence like no other and people listen.

Kent:  Of course I found it silly.  The Latinas had the gun.  They should have been running the negotiations.  I know it’s a show and it created a good story arc for the black girls, but if we’re being real here, it lacked a semblance of reality.  You don’t put somebody in charge of negotiations when they are that emotionally invested.  If anything, I wished they would have revisited the idea of the heads of each group come together as they did briefly in season 4.  It would have made way more sense and then maybe Red would have had a good season.

  1.  Was this season trying to make a statement about cell phones?

Kristi:  Perhaps. The part when the Maritza was saying how she couldn’t deal without it now and how they were on the damn thing the whole episode certainly shows how dependant we have become to them.

Melanie:  Cell phones calmed most of the group down. I think they were trying to highlight our dependance on technology as a whole.

Cece: I don’t see it that way. They handled 2017 exactly how it is in the real world.

Jamie:  I think it showed very realistically how people react to anything they make a meme out of it and like to follow silly YouTube vlogs

Kent:  Obviously I think it was making a statement about how phones take you out of the real world and place you in a virtual reality of sorts.  On top of that, the dependence on them.  Think about it, if you go out to eat with somebody and they go to the bathroom, what’s the first thing you do?  Grab your damn phone.  I know there are many ways to look at it, but I hope it highlighted how obsessive we are with our phones.  Hopefully you are reading this blog on your phone.

  1.  Give me your thoughts on the final episode, especially the final minutes, and tell me where you think the show will pick up next season.  Yes, this is intended for a longer response.

Kristi:  I was super happy to see Piscatella die. I thought it was pretty dumb of the girls to sit in the pool though. They were obviously going to be found eventually and hiding out is just going to make it worse. I have a feeling the girls will somehow be to blame for Piscatella’s death. Like they resisted and he was an innocent bystander or some crap. I’m thinking it may start out from where it ended. At least a short flashback to it anyway.

Melanie:   I think they will show how everyone is coping with being in their new placements. I think the opening scene will be Morello in labor, handcuffed to the bed with her husband on one side and Nicky on the other.

Cece:  I honestly have no idea. I’ve been thinking about this a lot. I hope, they’ll not all separate and have us jumping around to different prisons. I’d hope Judy King realizes she’s a cunt and donates money to fix things.

Jamie:  If they are planning on sending them to different places there is gonna be a lot of jumping around next season I think they will eventually be back together.  I love how the ladies came together and stood hand in hand. Hoping they all make it out alive

Kent:  I was dismayed to see Piscatella go down.  I know that it was one of the many inevitable things to have happened.  I still feel that they could have attempted to redeem his character after making him so cartoony.  It was also convenient how 8 of the 10 main characters were all together at the end.  Once again, cartoony.  I liked the final episode a lot with all of that negativity out of the way.  I liked seeing the guards regain control.  It was about damn time.  Yes, it’s a comedy, but still, the riot went on for way too long.  I am sad and happy simultaneously to see Maritza and Flacca separated.  They are a great duo, but their characters are funny enough that they will obviously be paired off with somebody else, and the “odd couple” setting could prove really funny.  I fear that we are going to be stuck getting introduced to another 30-40 characters and quite frankly, my brain and memory can’t retain all of that new info.  We have enough girl’s whose backstory should be told.  Also, I’m curious how hard some of them are sentenced for their roles.  It seems like a convenient way to elongate Piper’s sentence, which I assume is the basis for how long the show lasts.  Finally, I really hope we get the old guards back.  I think Litchfield will get cleaned up by the end of the season and one of the things will be that we see our old guards back, minus Pornstache and Healy.

Bonus Deuce Deuce

  1.  Name a character or two whose backstory you wish to see that we haven’t had an opportunity to see yet.

Kristi:  I’d like to see more on Suzanne and Boo

Melanie:   I can’t think of one.

Cece:  Zirconia

Jamie:  I want more of Frieda’s story!  Angie, Gina, and Anitas

Kent:  Angie, any of the white supremacists, especially the one with the giant tits, Boo, and the funny Latina chicks who were guarding the guards.

  1.  What will happen with Penn and Doughnuts?  What will happen with Bayley?

Kristi:  I think he will, reluctantly, turn her in. I think Bayley will probably end up killing himself.

Melanie:  Penn and Doughnuts will live happily ever after in another state somewhere. Bayley will be committed somewhere.

Cece: Penn and Doughnuts, well, they just really don’t need to be together, but I suppose they’ll be found eventually. Bayley, I feel will run away and continuously try to keep running from his problems.

Jamie:  I think she will be found I’m more interested in following Chang.  Bayley will either kill himself, end up in prison, or keep trying to apologize to try and feel better

Kent:  I can see Penn actually turning herself in after a conversation with Doughnuts, and maybe she will even say that he captured her so he gets a promotion.  I don’t really care about Bayley’s story because how much more suffering do we have to see him go through?  I imagine he gets turned in and maybe we see some courtroom drama play out.

  1.  Piper and Alex are now engaged.  Did you find them more or less annoying this season?

Kristi:  Less annoying. They weren’t on as much so that was helpful.

Melanie:  I missed it. More annoying as I fast forwarded through their scenes.

Cece:  Surprisingly, less. But still top of the list under the meth heads.

Jamie:  who cares!  Still find Piper annoying and Vause got on my nerves this season

Kent:  Less annoying for me and I feel a positive step towards trying to redeem both characters.  They have a lot of work to do, or they can give them less scenes.  Still, a huge improvement over seasons 3 and 4.

  1.  Was this season a success in your opinion?

Kristi:  It was just ok for me. I enjoyed parts of it but feel like it could have been stripped down to like 5 episodes without losing too much of the storyline.

Melanie:  No but my personal feelings may have kept me from enjoying it.

Cece:  Yes.

Jamie:  I enjoyed it

Kent:  For me, it was a comeback season.  The show regained the humor that it had lost in season 3 and 4.  Yes, it was outlandish, and at times took me out of the show a bit.  Like, we wouldn’t really be happy if a prison riot happened, and it sure as hell wouldn’t have lasted that long on the premise of just one gun.  That was absurd.  Still, bring laughs back is always a win for a show that I loved because it made me laugh.  They eased up a bit on the list of agendas that season 4 pounded down our throats.

Final thoughts:  This is where you can leave any thoughts about the show or this blog.  Obviously I wasn’t able to cover every single angle of the show, so this is your time to sound off if you wish to.

Melanie:  I had a hard time watching this season.Very serious. A far cry from season 1.

Cece:  Fuck Piscatella.

Jamie:  why do we have to wait a year for the next season

Kent:  I fear that season 6 will be a bad one and perhaps may start to not care as much about the show.  With that being said, I’m looking forward to the season after that because I think it will be more back to normal.  The key to this show is putting the girls in situation where they can be funny.  Making shit too serious kills off possibilities.  I think it’s going to be hard to get into a groove as we are going to have to meet so many new characters and integrate them in.  Season 6 will be more about building and establishing so we will miss out on good stuff.  Also, how many backstories are we going to get where we are supposed to sympathize with the criminal?

Orange Is The New Black Retrospective (Seasons 1-4) – 9 Deuce Discussion

Welcome everybody to an Orange is the New Black Retrospective blog for seasons 1-4.  I wrangled up some lovely ladies who were willing to spare some valuable free time to help me out with this.  You can play along at home and leave a comment with your responses to these questions.  I am Kent, and I am the only male in this discussion, so expect lots of conflicting perspectives.  Anything written in bold will be my comments.

Please check us out at facebook.com/9deuceblog , on Twitter @official9deuce, or Instagram at Official9Deuce.  Share this, like this, write us an email with a question at kent@9deuce.com.  Thank you.

  1.  Let’s start off with an easy one.  Has Piper become an unlikeable character for you?

Melanie:  Not unlikable, but not my favorite.

Kelly:  Yes. She has had good and bad times, but since the panty business she’s been ridiculous and for me, more unlikable.

Cece:  Extremely. She’s always been my least favorite.  (Wow, absolute least favorite?  She’s high on that list for me.)

Kristi:  She has most definitely become one of my least favorite characters.

Jamie:  I would say more annoying than unlikable. She does a lot of stuff that pisses me off and annoys me. Such as thinking she’s top dog in there, her crying annoys me.  (Yeah, excellent point about the crying.  It’s absolutely dreadful.)

Kent:  Yeah, really since midway through season 2.  I got so sick of her, Larry, Alex, and Polly nonsense.  It was some high school needy bulllllshit.

  1.  Name your four favorite female characters, and two male character.  They can be alive or dead. You don’t have to list 6, but I wanted the maximum to be 6.

Melanie:  Female-Poussey, Red, Sophia, and Morello

Male-Pornstache, Luschek

Kelly:  Red, Taystee, Poussey, Sophia, Nicky, Luschek

Cece: Female: Poussey, Red, Nikki, Daya. Men: Bennett and Luschek.

Kristi:  Red, Lolly, Poussey, Lorna- Luschek and Caputo

Jamie:  female: Nicki, Mei Chang, Red.   Male:Cal Chapman, Luschek

Kent:  I love the older ladies on this show, so my first 3 are Miss Rosa, Miss Claudette, and Frieda.  The 4th presented a problem for me between Red, Crazy Eyes, and Lolly.  I will go with Red because she likes to cook.  The guys, well Caputo is my obvious choice.  I feel that every girl is going to choose Luschek because that’s how Seth Rogen got popular.  I honestly like Healy, Ceasar, and O’Neil.  Let’s go with O’Neil.  (By the way, I wrote that every girl was going to name Luschek prior to reading any comments.  Seriously, douchey guys with hairy faces with no ambition who make girls laugh are just so uncreative.  Seth Rogen and Chris Pratt really like your money.  Douchey guys with no facial hair, that’s where it’s at.  Also, I would have loved to have more diversity in this panel to see if maybe more Latinas or Black chicks got mentioned.  Note, everybody loves Red and most girls love Poussey.)

  1.  Name your least favorite character who isn’t supposed to be an antagonist.  So don’t pick Vee from season 2, or Piscatella from season 4 as they were never intended to be well liked.

Melanie:  All of the people who I thought of were made to be an antagonist in some way. I can’t think of an answer for this one.

Kelly:  Bennett. I freaking loved Daya and him and boom, he disappears like a loser. Screw him.  (You partially disappoint me, haha.)

Cece:  Piper.

Kristi:  Daya- I wanted to like her but she has become annoying to me.

Jamie:  Watson is my least favorite. She’s a very irrelevant character who just shouts out pro black racist garbage.  (Honestly, Watson is one of my faves, probably top 10.  Normally I am anti all the hateful nonsense, but her backstory and the way that she has been treated backs up her philosophies.  Perhaps season 5 will help lessen the hate, or possibly make it stronger.  I can say that it strengthened my love for her, but I am only halfway through.)

Kent:  Daya and Bennett.  I loathe them, but since I have had to put up the most with Daya, she’s my choice.  I really am not a huge fan of the Latinas in this show.  Yoga Jones, Judy King, and Sofia are all not well liked by me either.

  1.  Do you like the theme song for this show: “You’ve Got Time”?

Melanie:  I do like it and think it is appropriate, but find myself fast forwarding through after the 2nd or 3rd episode.  (In all fairness, when I started re-binge watching it, I listened to it the first time.  After that I remembered how much I hated it, but timing the fast forward can be tricky on Netflix.)

Kelly:  Yes! I sing it all the time!!!  (Change that partial to a complete.)

Cece:  I love it. Regina Spektor is awesome.

Kristi:  I cant say I’ve ever really paid attention to it. I just fast forward through the opening do I guess it didn’t make much of an impression on me.  (

Jamie:  love it my daughter even sings it when it comes on.

Kent: Nay.  I try to skip over it at the beginning of every episode.  The song grates on me.  Just shrieking at me.  It’s like nails on a chalkboard.  The WORST part is that when I try timing the fast forward, I often land on the highest, most shriekiest part of the song and it just makes me want to do awful things in a Jason mask with a machete.

  1.  Aside from the theme song, what is your favorite song that they have used in the show?

Melanie:  “Beautiful” sung by young Taystee. She sang the song to prospective foster/adoptive parents to try and impress them. It broke my heart.  (I had forgotten all about that scene.  It was really good.)

Kelly:  Last Resort by Papa Roach, because I had to be “that person” who mentioned it. *insert laughing emoji*  (Well, we are both “that person” or is persons?  It fit the scene really well.)

Cece:  Honestly not sure. I’ve forgotten and I just don’t recognize much of what I found when googling.

Jamie:  I don’t have a favorite

Kent: “Too Dry To Cry” by Willis Earl Beal was in season 3 when Sofia went to SHU.  I am also a big fan of “Last Resort” in the season 4 premiere, but they edited it for some inane reason.  Tom Waits “Come On Up To the House” played during Cal’s wedding and was a perfect song.  “Bitch Please II” by Eminem, Dre, Snoop, Xzibit, and Nate Dogg in the 3rd episode of season 4, fucking oustanding.  “Don’t Fear The Reaper” playing when Rosa hit Vee was niiiice.  Also, any of the gangsta rap style stuff, I totally enjoy.  It’s my blog, I can break the rules and name multiple songs, or maybe it’s white privilege.  This show fucks with my head.

  1.  Do you miss Larry’s character (Piper’s boyfriend/fiance played by Jason Biggs) at all?

Melanie:  No, he was annoying.

Kelly:  Not at all! He was so annoying.

Cece:  Yes. I love Jason Biggs. (Cece my friend, it appears that you are all alone on the Jason Biggs island.  Don’t feel too bad.  I may be alone on the Watson island.)

Kristi:  Not at all. His character isn’t really relevant to whats going on anymore.

Jamie:  not at all

Kent:  No, his character was worthless and caused unneeded drama, which I kinda pointed out earlier.  Also, when has Jason Biggs ever been funny?  I am blown away that he got this role.  Not a fan of his, but his character was awful.  Never come back Larry!  I did enjoy Larry’s parents though.

  1.  There have been some deaths in the show.  Talk about one, whether you liked it or hated it.

Melanie:  I would say the one I “liked” was Vee- “Always so rude that one!”  (I loved that line.  One thing I kinda wished would happen is if the boy getting chemo with her was a little bit older, and then in a few seasons, he would become a CO for Litchfield.)

Hated- Poussey. It was incredible sad and very poignant. What a beautiful episode to tribute her character.

Kelly:  I liked the death of the guy in the greenhouse with Alex (forgot his name). It brought together some women you’d never suspect to speak to each other in that prison.  (Despite just rewatching the series, I never gave him a thought.  Good answer.)

Cece:  I loved Vee’s death. Rosa was a bad bitch.

Kristi:  Poussey is the one that stands out most for me. She was one of my favorites and it was very unexpected.

Jamie:  Rosa killing Vee was an amazing episode and as sad as it was to see Rosa go she went out in such a great way! Noone wanted to see Poussey die and in such a crap way they could’ve made it a better death scene then an elbow on the back of the neck

Kent:  Vee’s death was the best because she was awful and Rosa was my favorite character.  I also wish to give props to Tricia’s death in season 2, I believe.  It was perfect to tie her story up.  Not a happy moment, but it was the right decision.  I gotta speak on Poussey’s death as few of you have brought it up.  I loathed the scene for the heavy handedness of it.  The writers had an opportunity to really make a statement by having a non-black person die this way to add to a conversation.  Instead, they took the easy race bait, and then made Tastee act a fool.  The fact that she is still bitching about Bayley rather than having her anger directed at any of the 3 people who were way more responsible, really bothers me.  She should be made at Crazy Eyes because that’s what really started the big fight.  Prior to that, Crazy Eyes may not have been so damn crazy if Humps hadn’t instigated the fight between Crazy and Kukudio.  Also, Humps shouldn’t even have been acting this way if Piscatella did things the right way and brought it a loose cannon like Humps.  The whole thing was kinda tactless.  Yes, it gave us a great backstory of Poussey, but at what cost?  Well when you watch season 5, we are still paying that price with Tastee.  All to do a Black Lives Matter bit.  Totally unnecessary.  They should’ve killed Daya or Lorna.  Now I shall step off of my soapbox as it is starting to crack under my immense weight.

  1.  Name 3 characters whose backstory you thought was the best told.

Melanie:  Crazy eyes, Blanca, Anita

Kelly:  Poussey, Rosa, and Lolly

Cece:  Taystee, Maria, and Suzanne ‘Crazy Eyes’

Kristi:  Red, Poussey, and Lorna

Jamie:  Rosa, Mei Chang, miss claudette

Kent:  Miss Claudette, Crazy Eyes, and Lolly’s

I also want to say that I really liked everybody’s picks.  The backstories are the absolute best part of this show to me.  It used to be one of the best things that the Walking Dead did.

  1.  Has the show gone downhill for you?

Melanie:  I think Piper’s story line has gone downhill, but otherwise no.

Kelly:  It just got very political which was rough to watch because half the humor of the show was gone. And then the death of Poussey, it was so tough to stick with it during the wait for Season 5. But I’m dedicated and I’ll be here watching as soon as it’s out!  (Season 4 was a huge tunr off for the same reasons.  Fortunately, season 5 is bringing funny back.)

Cece:  Piper continues to suck. Also, my favorite character was killed off.

Kristi:  Yes, and after watching Wentworth I am starting to lose interest.  (What’s that you say?  Wentworth eh?  Geez, that sounds like a great opportunity for a blog.  (Followed by a wink and a thumbs up).)

Jamie:  I love the show so no it has not for me

Kent:  Yeah, it has.  Season 4 was bad.  We are all fans here, but if we look at it objectively, season 1 & 2 were the best, then 3, then 4.  That’s what we call a downward slide.  The race baiting bullshit, Poussey’s awful death, Judy King, militant mother fuckers, over the top CO’s to try to paint CO’s in a bad light.  It sucked big hairy monkey balls.  They need a redemption.  Season 5 should start with Daya shooting herself in the dome. I would be hooked again!

Bonus Deuce – Spoiler alert for question #1 those who haven’t finished season 4.  #2 is spoiler free.

  1.  Will Daya shoot anybody in season 5?  If you say yes, who do you predict?

Melanie:  I don’t think so.

Kelly:  I’m not sure she actually will, but either a fellow Hispanic cast mate or Piscatella.

Cece:  I feel like at the last moment she won’t. Someone else may.

Kristi:  I don’t think she will.

Jamie: I don’t think she will someone else may

Kent: While I have my doubts, I’m willing to lose a good character if Daya shoots them and ends up in SHU where I never have to see her again.  She’s basically the equivalent to Tara on the Walking Dead.  I love both characters.  They aren’t similar, but man, they are just……. I gotta move on.

  1.  Name a character or two that you are looking forward to seeing this season.  Probably best to pick some characters that you haven’t discussed yet.

Melanie:  Frieda, she has some of the best one liners. So funny!

Kelly:  Piper to see what her deal is after all this time, and Red.

Cece:  I hope to see Bennett come back! Still crossing my fingers. Also, I’d like to see how everyone changes after Poussey’s death.  (Don’t take this personally, you know, just like every other comment I have ever left you over the years, but I really am hoping that this particular wish doesn’t come true, unless it results in his immediate gruesome murder.)

Kristi:  Id like to see more of Lolly. Id also like to see Ruby Rose come back for a few.  (I love Lolly, so I am on board with that.  Ruby Rose is in a movie coming out called Meg.  it has Jason Statham, Rainn Wilson (Dwight from the Office, or the other guy in House of 1,000 Corpses that wasn’t fat Chris Hardwick), and Cliff Curtis (the dad from Fear the Walking Dead).  I just looked this up 5 days ago.)

Jamie:  will Bennett show up??  (OK, I hope that once this is posted, somebody leaves me a message or a comment about the fascination or love for this character.  I simply don’t get it.  Is it because he was involved in the only hetero love story, and chicks like that shit?  Is it because he was a good guy?  I guess I need some perspective, so I am asking for it.)

Kent:  Frieda is my obvious choice.  I’m hoping that we get a follow up on Healy and Lolly.I want more Natalie Fig and Ceasar as well.  Plus, more lesbian scenes.  Look at how great that stuff was in season 1.  All the time.  Now it’s race wars and evil men.  Get the fuck up off your high horse, and make some compelling TV again or else I’m out.  If I want to see this nonsense, there are many, many ways to see it.  I want to have compelling drama with some good one liners, and boobs!  I don’t feel like I am asking for too much here. Please, stop making this show worse.  That’s really what I am begging for because if they continue down this road, they will lose fans.  Also, do more with Chang damnit!

With that being said, I hope that you have all enjoyed this retrospective.  Hopefully, by the end of the month, maybe we can do a season 5 blog if enough of these lovely ladies will join me.  This felt very much like an AHS reunion for the girls that help me, so it felt very nice to hear from them again as a group, and it was great to have a newbie in Jamie.  Kristi, she just hangs around because we watch a lot of the same shit.

#317 Ava’s Possessions (2015)

William Sadler, that is all I have to say. The mom is from a bunch of stuff, but probably most famous for American Pie. The older lady at the magic shop, she was the star of  Tales From the Crypt episode.

This is about possession, but it is done in a very unique way in how it’s presented, but more importantly, how the public accept it, to an extent. This film goes way out of it’s way to pay homage perhaps to Suspiria with all of the lighting techniques. It got to a point of almost distracting, and that’s rarely a good thing. You want the lighting to amplify the story or to compliment it, not be the focal point. I really liked how the story was told, and it really progressed and built up at a very satisfying pace. By the end, you are not left with many unanswered questions, unless you are dwelling on some stupid shit, or I may have missed something, I am sure. This was the most fun I’ve had with a possession film since The Last Exorcism. The last 10 minutes or so really ties everything together, and don’t sell yourself short because not everything is known until the end.

Rating – 6.3 seems fair. I could see myself going higher if it was more fun the second time, which it may actually be. Some movies do better upon multiple viewings.
