The Quiet Ones (2014)

I am afraid this will be slow and plodding, but I insist upon giving it a chance. Hell, it took 3 minutes just to roll credits. That shit pisses me off.

The best part is that I have heard Come on Feel the Noise twice now but it isn’t the original artist. Win some, lose some.

It’s been 46 minutes so far. Here’s the plot. A professor is like a doctor for this teenage girl who may be possessed or have some powers or some shit, and her name is Jane, played by Olivia Cooke who is in Bates Motel. The Professor has 3 students helping him: Brian, Chrissie, and Harry. Jane has a thing for Brian. Jane thinks she is possessed by a doll named Evey, and it gives her telekinetic powers. We’ve seen Jane’s tits very briefly. Creepy things continue to happen.

20 minutes later, the professor thinks one of his students has made Jane believe in devil stuff, and now she has a mark burned on her side. Maybe it’s a tattoo. I don’t know. Well, they found out that there was an Evey Dwyer and that is the link here somewhere.

This movie just was underwhelming and towards the end, it felt like Paranormal Activity. That’s the distinct vibe I got and clearly that was part of the inspiration.

In conclusion, I didn’t dig this movie. It had a lot of lulls for me. Nothing really grabbed my attention. Some of the visuals were cool. The “creepy” scenes were better than a lot of things in Paranormal Activity. I get the story that they were trying to tell,  I just didn’t like how it was executed. It had potential, and I don’t know how I would have improved it either. Some things are not meant to click for everyone. It got a 5.1 on IMDB and I can totally see why. I imagine some people gave it a 7 or 8, while others went 2 or 3. I’m on the lower end of that spectrum. I’m giving it a 3.0  I would say if you’re a fan of possessions or Paranormal Activity, this may suit you better than it did me. It’s still worth a viewing.

Final Rating: 3.0
