American Psycho (2000)

It is hip to be square. Even if you don’t like that song, you will by the end of this movie, ya know, providing you have a soul and all. I have been recently accused of not having one. I’ll go all Christian Bale on their asses if they don’t calm the fuck down though. “I have to go return some video tapes” is one of the funniest lines ever to me.

Time to get down to brass tacks. Christian Bale carries this movie on his back, and quite frankly provided his best performance of his career as far as I’m concerned. He was a wealthy, jealous, demanding, crazy mother fucker, that knew how to get shit done. He plays the role to perfection and I am hard pressed to think of anybody else who could have pulled this roll off. Edward Norton, my favorite actor, I think he may have even struggled on this role. Now granted, there was a tad too much of Bale’s ass, but we also got to see some titties, so it was an equal opportunity nudity fest. Way better proportions compared to Son’s of Anarchy and Jax’s obligatory ass shot every other episode. I can’t begin to really figure out my favorite scene in this movie. I think the bathroom scene with the gay dude, and the chainsaw scene, and the hip to be square scene, ok see I can keep going on and on and on because there are just so many good scenes.

The cast is absolutely tremendous. Aside from Christian Bale, you have an amazing line up. Start off with Reese Witherspoon back when she picked good roles and was cute as all hell. Willem Dafoe is typical Willem. As mademoiselle pointed out, kind surreal to see Batman confront the Green Goblin, but hey, it worked. Jared Leto is like this generation’s Tupac. I can’t stand his music, but he is a fine actor. Just watch Fight Club and Requiem For a Dream, and then you will believe the hype. His name was Robert Paulson. Justin Theroux did a stellar job and had his amusing scenes. And last but certain not least was Chloe Sevigny who I think outshined Reese to be perfectly honest. Just my opinion, I mean it’s the right thing, but still my opinion nevertheless.

All in all, you can probably find this on Blu Ray at Target for $5, go do that. This is another great movie, and I give it an 8. What a great night of movies.  It’s rare to watch 3 great horror flicks in the same night.
