Frailty (2001)

Why doesn’t this movie get more props? I do not fucking get it. This movie has a great cast, a pretty good story, and pretty much never gets too dull. Bill Paxton stars and directs this wonderful film. He plays the dad. Then there is present day Matthew McConaughey who goes to Powers Booth about the God’s Hand Killer, which goes back to McConaughey’s character as a kid with Paxton as his dad and he has a brother. Both young boys did a great job I felt. Paxton carries this heavy movie on his back and I honestly felt he deserved more recognition for it.

Now the plot, it’s tough to give too much away for those who haven’t seen it. The dad gets a vision from God and needs some tools to carry out his destiny or prophecy or whatever. The tools are a pipe, some gloves, and an axe named OTIS. The dad tells his boys that he is told who are demons and god blinds people from dad and the boys when they slay the demons. The oldest son is not buying into this unlike his younger brother. The older brother is punished for his lack of faith and is put to work by his dad to dig up a 15 by 15 foot hole, 10 feet deep. I don’t wanna give away much more, but it unfolds very nicely and I think most should enjoy the last 10 minutes or so.

I know this seems like an awfully short post for a movie I am gonna give such a rating for, but much like Usual Suspects, some movies just need to seen to appreciate it. Giving this a 7.7.
