Hellraiser: Hellworld (2005)

Hellraiser: Hellworld somehow has a lower rating on IMDB than Hellraiser Deader. Fucking hell! This is the last time that Doug Bradley would play Pinhead and from the sounds of it, this is another script that they wedged Pinhead and the franchise into. Such bad decision making. I’m not at all excited. This is supposed to be about video games, so maybe they have some humor, but most likely really bad cliches about gamers.

This may have the best cast of all the Hellraiser films. It has Lance Henriksen who most horror fans know. Khary Payton is King Ezekiel on the Walking Dead. Katheryn Winnick was the older sister in Satan’s Little Helper, which was a film that I thoroughly enjoyed. Henry Cavil, mother fucking Superman himself. Even Christopher Jacot did voices in a cartoon show I watched and Victor McGuire has been in quite a few things that I liked in smaller roles. Solid fucking cast! I’m cautiously optimistic about Hellraiser: Hellworld.

Start Film

I feel like I may have seen some of this film. We start at Adam’s funeral and Jake is a little high strung. Mike (Henry Cavil) and Derrick (Khary Payton) are with Chelsea and Allison. Chelsea (Katheryn Winnick) opens the casket and Adam grabs her. It was just a dream.

2 Years Later

Mike shows up to Chelsea’s wearing a Cenobite mask and she mentions the Lament Configuration, the puzzle box, but calls it the Lamont Configuration. Now I want to watch Sanford and Son. There is some 5th-anniversary game thing called Hellworld. Derrick and Allison have opened the box. In order to go to this Hellworld party, you have to open the box. Chelsea is the only one not interested in going to this party. They all go to this party. Apparently, this was filmed in Romania too. In this world, Hellraiser is known.

Hot chick with wonderful bare tits. Jake also shows up. They keep blaming the game for Adam’s demise. Apparently, Lance was offered the role of Frank in the original film but accepted a role in Near Dark. Derrick sees a painting of L’Merchand. I feel like his name gets changed depending on the film. Or maybe the name got changed in Bloodline looking back at notes. They are partying at the Leviathan House, nice name. A Sister Ursula had a thing for the puzzle box. Lance is giving this big history lesson. So is Hellraiser considered real in this or do the films exist or just the game? I like Allison because she’s a playful skank who seems to get some humor.

Lance is the host of the party and just jabbed Chelsea with something and then she saw Pinhead, and Lance did nothing. So everybody gets a mask that has a 4 digit code and a cell phone. If you see someone that you like, you call them and hope for the best. Nice. I love this idea. Mike is going to spend the night trying to fuck Chelsea. Jake is just an angry guy, probably is right. Derrick finds himself a pretty girl. Good for him! Mike is totally fucking things up. Allison sees a sign on a door that says KEEP OUT and she says “As if” and I have lost my interest in her.

There are plenty of objects being covered by sheets. Allison finds a chair that locks her in place. Lance calls the chair “The Sacrificer”. Lance engages the cutting blades. Hahahaha. And Allison is getting cut and Pinhead shows up and asks her if she believes Adam now. That’s what she gets for saying as if. I have a bad feeling that this may have the final girl bullshit to it. I feel Kirsty should be here. Jake supposedly is meeting a girl here that he met online. But so far, no luck.

Jake is in a room with a computer and a picture of Jake and Adam together. Lance shows up and offers Jake a custom made puzzle box that Adam made, supposedly. Go ahead, open it, Jake. Wow, as I am typing those words, Lance actually said “Go ahead, open it.” Wow, that’s creepy and cool. Jake asks if it is real and then his fingers get punctured and he sees Pinhead. Pinhead asks him if it’s just a game? Jake sees Lance outside shoveling some dirt. Yeah, another film just wedging Pinhead into it.

Mike sees a sexy chick dancing and he wants to call her. “I’d love to see your puzzle box.” Nice line. Jake goes to the bartender and asks for a drink and he gets ignored totally. There are people randomly fucking. Everybody is ignoring him. It’s like he’s a ghost. Jake goes to leave then turns around and everyone is hanging from chains, and now the room is normal again.

Derrick has asthma and while dancing with the girl, he needs his inhaler but drops it. He goes crawling and it gets kicked repeatedly until it falls down a grate. Mike is getting a BJ but Chelsea is claiming that she’s locked in a room. Mike hangs up and enjoys the BJ. He made the right call. Derrick is now going down flights of stairs in pursuit of the inhaler. He actually finds it but can’t get it and the grate is on there good. So he starts to loosen the screws. I totally know how he feels. It’s a scary feeling when you need that fucking thing. He lays down on a table and there’s Pinhead. Pinhead decapitates my favorite character. Bye Derrick. I’m sad now.

Jake sees a nun, and we can assume that to be Ursula. He pursues her at the top of the house, like the attic. Hello nude lady. This movie knows its audience. She has a great ass, and they kiss and then they fuck. Fuck it, this movie is already better than Deader. Jake is having the dream that we saw in the opening clip, I think of Adam digging a hole like he was Kevin Bacon in Stir of Echoes.

Chelsea is still stuck in the room and she gets a call from Allison. Lance tells her that she will soon see Allison and welcomes her to Hellworld. Jake wakes up and is alone. Chelsea calls 911. I am 50% sure that i have seen some of this. The officers arrive and talk to Lance. They ask if they can look around and Lance says no. Chelsea is pounding on the window and calls the cops they can’t even see her. Hahaha. They deem it a prank call. Apparently, she was calling from the officer’s phone number.

Mike and the girl meet up again and it’s his turn to go down. I bet that teenage me would have loved this film way more than he should have. Chelsea’s door finally opens. Man, Superman ain’t saving shit. Ohhhh, too much ribcage. Not attractive. She is all kinds of aggressive and then locks him in the room that Derrick got got in, I think. Mike breaks the doorknob. Dumbass. He finds decapitated Derrick. Mike played with the hook in this room earlier. So, I think we know where this is going. Yup, the hook is swinging. There’s a Cenobite. He sends the hook into Mike’s back. Pinhead says “This is just the beginning.” Not really, we’re 2/3 through the film.

Chelsea made it outside. Her car won’t start and then Lance is in the backseat and says “Like a bad horror movie, isn’t it?” Hahaha, the best line so far. Jake keeps revisiting his Adam thoughts. Apparently, Adam set himself on fire.

Chelsea is running and she runs into an officer in the middle of the woods. Pinhead kills the officer as he tries to call dispatch. Jake is calling Chelsea. He begs her not to leave him there in the house. Hahaha, it was Lance. She comes back in, but there’s nobody inside. Jake yells for her. Are they both in their separate hells? I feel like this film is only going to go downhill from here but hope that they prove me wrong. There’s the Chatterer, Mike, and Allison. The made Allison just awful. They also chased Chelsea into a room. She gets a call from Lance. She asks when Lance will become Pinhead. She tries to correct him on the mythology. Lance puts her in her place.

Jake is in the library and he finds a little knife and the Chatterer behind him. He spins around and stabs the Chatter……or Chelsea. Haha. That pleases me if it’s real. He gets a phone call from Chelsea. He starts screaming asking who the fuck is calling him and it’s Chelsea. He tells her that he just killed her. She asks if this could be a portal to the Hellworld. She suggests that they are already dead and in Hell for not saving Adam. She has locked herself in the attic.

Chelsea finds a folder with a picture of Adam and Jake. She hears Adam’s voice and the pigeon keeps flapping its wings. She gets grabbed by the hand. Jake tells her that it’s all in the head. Jake and Chelsea find each other. Oh, the other picture that Chelsea found was on Adam with his dad, Lance. She ninja spin kicks Lance over the railing. Lance rises like The Undertaker. Lance can teleport.

Outside, they find freshly dug graves with pipes for oxygen. Lance is impressed. Jake was the only person that Lance didn’t think that he’d get, So he used the chat to lure him. Jake goes to attack Lance and ends up in a coffin. Chelsea asks why he did this, he says revenge and says that Hellworld was all in her mind. He gave them all some kind of drug to fuck with their head. That is why she got jabbed and Jake got the pins in his fingers. This allowed him to bury them in the coffins. Allison bled to death from clawing at an imaginary device. Mike died of fear and Derrick died of asthma.

She gets dug out by the officers in the morning. Mike is dead. Derrick is dead. Allison is dead. Jake is still alive. Chelsea had been missing for days They traced her phone and it was the ghost of Adam that saved them Lance is seen in a hotel room with the pictures and the puzzle box. He opens it up. This brings Pinhead and his Cenobites. They slice him into pieces.

Chelsea and Jake are riding together. Chelsea gets a phone call from Lance who is in their backseat and grabs the steering wheel. They swerve and then Lance is gone. The officers find Lance’s hotel room all bloody and the puzzle box. There’s some hair band ballad sounding song playing. It isn’t terrible.

End Film

Hellraiser: Hellworld was very watchable, and most of a traditional popcorn horror flick with young people, drugs, sex, and them splitting up. But there’s a lot more to it than that. Some of it good, some of it relatively lame. I had a good time. The Host being Adam’s father seemed fairly predictable. But it also made sense in the world of horror. How did Lance appear in the car in the end? It seems like a reasonable question given that all of the fucketry from the film was drug-induced hallucinations, mostly.

The cast saves this, especially knowing who so many of them are now. Back then, I would have only known Lance and Doug. Lance is such a special talent. I hope he gets more projects that are popular.

Rating: 5.5 – I thought this was mostly fun and I didn’t hate it nearly as much as I feared. Sometimes a little positivity can truly help. You can read the description and decide right then if this is your type of film or not.
