High Lane (2009)

French horror, let’s see what you got.

So the first 30 minutes or so, we have these 5 20 some year olds going mountain climbing and that sort of thing. One of them, Luic has a fear of heights, so he makes the first 30 minutes a chore, but the tension is good. Then things get really good when a safety cable is found cut. This causes Karina and Fred to go climbing, trying to help Luic, Guillaume, and Chloe out. Then we are introduced to the real horror aspect of the story and things go about as well as you would expect.

Did I predict who would live and die, yes, yes I did. Was it fun? Like 75% of the time it was, but there were times that things were beyond implausible. Also, Chloe ends up with a spike through her arm, then for about 30 minutes, she doesn’t sell teh injury, and as a wrestling fan, that is the sort of thing that can really grind my fucking gears.

If you like movies with well built tension, I feel that this was a solid effort. It doesn’t rank as high up as a lot of the other great recent French horror. There are some highs and lows. I don’t if I would ever re-watch it though.

Rating – 4.0 because there were some things that didn’t need to be, in my opinion.
