Leprechaun 6: Back 2 Tha Hood (2003)

Leprechaun 6: Back 2 Tha Hood actually has better reviews, on average, than its predecessor, Leprechaun 5: In The Hood.  Could that be possible?  I guess it truly is all about perspective.

In my opinion, In The Hood brought back many of the fun and silly aspects that made the Leprechaun franchise so popular.  Leprechaun 6 lacked most of that charm.  Part 6 only has 2 characters with any charisma or charm, and that would be Leprechaun and Jamie.

That brings me to one of my biggest issues.  The main cast is the Leprechaun, Emily, Rory, Jamie, and Lisa.  I found Lisa to be likable, she dies too early.  Rory and Emily are bland for leads.  I think that they thought they wrote a complex character in Rory, but he just changed his mind frequently.  That isn’t complicated.  That’s like bringing a girl to a restaurant and waiting 5 minutes for her to make a decision on what to eat.  Being indecisive isn’t complex, it’s quite annoying.

I told you that was one of my biggest issues.  My biggest issue with this film is a feeling of just going in circles and dragging it out long enough to hit a certain time.  The film is an hour and 27 minutes.  They could easily have cut 12-20 minutes, no problem, and not really lost much of the story.  Horror is notorious for wasting the viewer’s time.  The last 15-20 minutes seemed like a never-ending wait to kill off Lep.  It wasn’t suspenseful as much as it was a chore.

So that brings me to a simple question.  How in the hell is this film in ANY way better than Lep In The Hood?  That film had comedy, charm, good characters, a plot, and it never felt like it dragged for more than a minute or two.  Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I honestly can’t see any single aspect of this film being an improvement over part 5 and that is required to consider this film better.  I want to say that Page Kennedy was very good as Jamie.

Rating: 3.8 – I never want to have to sit down and watch this one again.  Warwick Davis didn’t look like he was having fun.  He looked like he did in Leprechaun 4: In Space.  That isn’t a good thing!  When your lead has as much enthusiasm in his role as Edward Norton did in The Italian Job, you’re in for a bad time.
