Talk about a movie that sadly hasn’t aged all that well. Granted, I was gonna end up liking this more than I should have thanks to Kane’s involvement, but man this wasn’t a good cliche ridden movie. It wasn’t garbage juice, it was somewhere in between. Some young adults who were locked up in county get an opportunity to help restore an old hotel, they work 3 days, reduce sentence by 30 days. These characters by and large are really awful though. We have one girl who shows her ass, and that counts as character development in this awful movie. If this didn’t have Kane, it would drop another point I would say. Kane is really fun in this, although I would have liked him to talk more because he is well spoken. So by and large, Kane rips eyeballs out of his victims, and that works. Most of the stuff makes some semblance of sense. THEN came one scene so dumb, and I know we’re talking a stupid horror flick, but it ruined it for me. The back of Kane’s head gets opened up and he has bugs crawling out. WHY? What purpose does that serve? It went from schlocky to down right dismal at that point. This really really bothered me. They are making a sequel and I’m good with that. I thought it is a few years too late, but whatever. If they do this in 2009 and 2012, they could have had 3 and a possible 4th before Kane gets too old. Dumbasses. I am giving this movie a 5.5 for nostalgia, and for Kane being an awesome badass. This had so much more potential though, and it was squandered. Most would rate this lower I think.
