I think I have seen this. The problem is that a good chunk of 2009-2014 is very blurry. Concussions do that to you. This stars the beautiful Erika Christensen as well as the bad ass Bill Moseley. I am excites. I love Bill!!! And this has torture!
Let’s just set the stage, we have a couple, Craig and Elise Landry. They have a 6-year-old boy who gets kidnapped and killed by John Kozlowski (Bill). John only gets sentenced to 25 years in prison, and the Landry’s do not like that. So they abduct him and……well you can imagine, they torture him.
The scene with John in the makeup was great. Not many people have as distinct a voice when he gets pissed. We see the cops that got John didn’t have a warrant and still broke in and apprehended him. The fucking record playing and skipping during “Hush Little Baby” drove me fucking nuts. It served its point. Seeing the kidnapping as it happened was quite heartbreaking. Elise was a bitch to Craig afterward. I do appreciate that killing John was not enough.
I loved the convenience store scene, she was so awkward, it was believable in it’s own clumsy way. These are not professionals at what they are doing. Then the officers have to puke, and then Craig takes off with the van. Of course he is going to fast, there’s a deer, the van goes flipping, big accident, but nothing is fucked. Really, the accident was totally a waste of time and money, but it did look cool and I am sure that was the thought process.
So they have him tied down to a table, still fucked up from the accident. Craig is a doctor, so he knows how inflict pain, keep John conscious throughout it and feel everything until they want him dead. Craig burning him with the cigarette and then banging Elise was a very nice touch.
The next day, more burning. So much pain, he is now pissing blood. He is in so much pain, she scratches the table which rips his nails off. Elise is having second thoughts, so Craig gives her the pep talk. Craig just injected him to cause swimmer’s cramp. Nice. So this first needle is keeping him awake, this next pill is going to fuck up his eardrums and ear canal. Seems like a stupid decision. I’d enjoy talking shit the whole time if I’m going to these lengths. Elise is quite chesty.
She boils some water for some tea but freaks John the fuck out in terror. Aww, they put a mask on him with a hose, to suffocate him and fuck with him. Well, Craig is going too far and flat lined John. Elise says that it’s over and Craig says that it’s not over. Now there is what sounds like walking above them, as they are in the basement. She finds a very angry dog. There’s a dude, with a gun, and he’s pissed about them squatting at this property. She is saying that she is a realty agent, and the guy is wondering about the noises below, which Craig trying to resuscitate John. The cops have a lead on the accident.
John is talking and says that he doesn’t remember a thing over than some kind of accident. Elise doesn’t believe him, and Craig walks away. She asks if this could be true, so now she’s upset. He could have had a concussion, or he may be lying. Elise still wants to torture him, and Craig is questioning the sense in torturing a guy who has no idea why he is being tortured.
Elise asks John what her sons name is, and he doesn’t know, so Craig cranks on the vice clamp that is on John’s foot. As he’s screaming, he says that his name is Benjamin. Craig is pissed so he grabs some pliers and cranks on John’s big toe.
Elise asks him what he has to say, and he says sorry, and they say sorry won’t cut it. Well, duh. He uses a scalpel and spreads him and starts taking out organs, and Craig says that John crushed his son’s liver, so he starts to do the same, and…….it’s all a dream.
John is working on freeing his arm as Craig mocked him by hanging a key on the basement ceiling , and John wants that. The guy with the dog has showed the cops where these people are. Elise gets up to pee. John has his arm free, and has grabbed the key.. She hears the door open while on the toilet. She is now scared. As Morgan Freeman may say, John Doe has the upper hand. She grabs some blunt object, knocks him out. Craig and her start to bring him to the basement. John kicks Craig downstairs and he walks out, and there is a massive search party out looking.
Craig is unhurt, and him and Elise are on the hunt. The cops and US Marshalls find and apprehend him. We find out via news reports, there was another inmate that was being transported with John, Patrick Galligan, who was in for tax evasion and fraud, for 18 months. Yeah, John escaped, Patrick saw him but couldn’t talk, John is the one who set off the car alarm. The guy that the cops apprehended is John. Elise and Craig find Patrick with a noose around his neck, admitting that he’s a coward and must die. Craig and Elise drive off.
End film.
So basically Galligan had a concussion and memory loss, overheard the parents arguing, and thought, well if these fuckers are so pissed as to do this, I must be a bad guy, so I’m gonna kill myself. Got it? Meanwhile, John escaped and survived as long as he could but was found by the cops. The cops must have assumed that Galligan died in these conditions, or possibly found him. Who knows. All in all, it was done fine, but I hate the misleading all along. I know, clever twist, but a twist for the sake of twist sometimes is bullshit. They could have shown us a 2nd guy in the van. It’s ok if we know that they have the wrong guy. It actually would have improved the film. Just my opinion.
