Kenter At Your Own Risk Episode 40F – Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991)

With the poor overall reception from Part 5 still in mind, New Line Cinema decided to end the franchise as we knew it, and therefore we get Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare. As a kid, I was bummed out, but looking back on it, it makes sense to make as much of a spectacle as you can, attach a gimmick to it with the 3-D glasses at a time when nobody else was doing 3-D, and try their best to send Freddy off into the sunset. Hell, they even did an amazing job, for the time, with the guest appearances by Johnny Depp, Alice Cooper, Roseanne, and Tom Arnold. On top of that, we Yaphet Kotto and Lisa Zane (Billy Zane’s sister and he was the “bad guy” in Titanic). Despite all of this, despite really doing a reasonably good job at peeling back the curtain on Freddy’s past, this just didn’t work as well as it should have. The pieces of it work individually, but putting it all together became a bit of a mess. And we also got Freddy spouting off with video game references and cheese factor upped itself. As a ten-year-old, this was awesome. It didn’t age well. By the time I was 12 or 13, this had aged incredibly poorly.
