Dolores Claiborne (1995)

I’ll stir the pot right off the bat. I personally think Kathy Bates gave a better performance in this movie than she did in Misery. There I said it. Yeah, the role is not as memorable, but her acting skills were better here. The cast for this particular film is very stellar. Jennifer Jason Leigh is VERY good in this, as is Christopher Plummer. John C Reilly of Step Brothers fame is also in this early on in his career. The warden from Shawshank has a small role. Then there are 2 people who along with Bates, really stole the show. Judy Parfitt play Bates hard ass boss who demands perfection, but turns out to also be humane after awhile after a bad scenario. The other star to me is David Strathairn who played Bates abusive husband, and he plays the role to perfection I think.

As for the plot, Bates works hard to help raise her daughter well, but is always getting fucked over by her husband who is a drunk abusive prick. Bates works for this rich old lady named Vera as a housekeeper/maid type job and Vera is a very hard lady to work for due to her precise demands, but Bates puts up with it to save up to provide her daughter a better life. Anyway, the big plot turn is when she finds out that her husband ended up taking money out of her private account that she was putting her money into for her daughter. And then shit gets real. Oh and this was all in the past. The current time plot is Dolores being accused of killing Vera. I did a shitty job with this description, but just know that this movie is really good. Not remembered nearly as fondly as Misery, but it realistically should be.

All in all, gonna give this movie an 8 surprisingly. Really well done movie I feel.
