Halloween II (1981)

Finally, a good film.

Haddonfield, IL

October 31, 1978

Laurie instructs the 2 kids to run and get help and be safe.  Michael sits up being Lauri. They both rise. Loomis is looming. Michael starts choking her. Loomis shoots Michael 5 or 6 times. Loomis goes to check on the body and he sees the imprint in the grass, but no Michael. I liked that Michael briefly took off his mask. A neighbor comes out and Loomis tells him to call the Sheriff.

Loomis meets up with the sheriff and says that he shot him 6 times about 4-5 times, and it was funny. Some old dude fell asleep watching Night of the Living Dead during the “They’re coming for you Barbara” scene. God, I love that scene. Oh, there was a special bulletin, but who cares. This hookerbot is just hearing about the murders of 3 teenagers. It took place right down the street and Michael entered her house. Yeah, just keep asking “Who is it?” Yup, you got what you deserved for not immediately leaving after seeing your door was open. Stupid ass.

The ambulance takes Laurie away. A mom brought her daughter in with a nosebleed. Laurie brought in and is getting attended to, and they need to put her out. Laurie protests to no avail. Sheriff Brackett is getting annoyed with Loomis. Loomis thinks that they found him, but scare off a guy with a similar mask, and a cop rams him into a van, and there’s a fiery inferno. Haha. Brackett just learned of Annie’s fate. Jimmy and EMT came in to check on Laurie. Laurie has a cracked bone, nothing broke.

Brackett is so pissed at Loomis for letting Michael free, in his mind. Brackett goes home to tell his wife about Annie. Ohhh, early 80’s boombox held up to the side of a guy’s head. That guy accidentally runs into Michael, but Michael leaves him alone. Michael is on his way to the hospital. The security guard is falling at his job, we just saw Michael walk past the cameras. Budd is a treat, he swears a lot and I think is with Karen, and she is pretty, not sure how he ended up with her, but good for him. Jimmy is like obsessing over Laurie.

Jimmy reveals to Laurie that it was Michael Meyers who was after her. She knows who he is. He tells her how he escaped the night before. Laurie wonders “Why me?”. I like Mrs. Alves, he is a bead nurse, she is good. The phones aren’t working properly. Janet is sent to report the phones being out to fatty security guard who sucks at his job. He leaves her to go look into it. I like their odds. Guard sees that a padlock is opened, so once again, this is a good sign for everybody involved.  He radios to tell Janet that somebody broke into the storage room, but she can’t hear him. He wants somebody to drive to the sheriff’s station. Guard is being a tad too curious. Not wise. And he closes a door and gets a hammer to the head.

The coroner thinks the body is of a 17-year-old, and it will take hours to go more thorough. So the other lead sheriff, Gary, says that they need to do a clean sweep. There is a minor protest going on, but Gary tries to settle them down. So they are pretty sure the dead guy is a drunk walking home from a party. They got a lead on somebody breaking into the school. Karen goes to check on a room and there’s a body underneath, and it’s Budd. Budd wants to go down to therapy with her. His finger needs therapy. She should focus on her wing with the kids. But she gives in to meet him in 15 minutes.

Laurie is having flashbacks to being a kid and this lady saying that she’s not her mother. Dun dun dun. In the therapy room, he’s in the tub, she’s getting nude for him. She wraps herself up and then drops the towel, and we have nice boobs. Good for her.  That tub seems way too hot for my sexual tastes. Michael has cranked the thermostat. She insists that he go check it out, and we get some man ass. Something for everyone. Oh and Michael strangled him in the other room. Well, she’s next. Michael from behind, touching her shoulder.  She lowers his hand down her chest. Yeah, she realizes it’s not Budd, and Michael drowns and burns her to death. I am more mad at her for not giving Michael action, but lots of boobs.

Hey, SAMHAIN in the school. Good shit. A woman comes in to talk to Loomis, and he is ordered back to the hospital. Loomis doesn’t want to go, but a Marshall is waiting outside.

Jimmy is back with Laurie, and he’s a creeper. He says that he’s not going to let anything happen to her, but she is in a eyes wide open daze and not responsive. Janet is looking for Dr Mixter, it’s an emergency. She finds him with his back to her, but not moving. She spins him around, and oh my goodness, he has a need in the side of his head. Michael grabs her and does the same to her. Jimmy tries finding Alves, leaves Jill with Laurie. Jill leaves to answer a call or something. Michael is in the room and goes to stab, but it’s just pillows. Laurie is up and walking. Shiiiiit.  Laurie tries to use the phone. Keyword, tries.

Loomis leaves without a fuss. Jill can’t find the security guard. Jimmy frightens Jill.  Jimmy instructs her to go to some wing and if nobody is there, go to the sheriffs.  Jimmy finds Alves who has been bled out all over the floor. He turns, slips, and knock himself out. Jill gets in the car, and you would be shocked to learn that the car won’t start. Her car is leaking fluids, the tires are all flat on all the cars. So clearly the killer is trying to keep you there, so naturally, she runs back inside. Jill finds Laurie in the halls and tells her to wait, but Michael just lifted her up via knife in the back. No fake. Laurie is now running for her life.

You can imagine how this plays out. He stalks her. She has to find Jimmy at some point one would guess.Maybe Brackett or Loomis gets a save.

Laurie finds the security guard dead and hanging. Laurie climbs out a window into another room. She is trying to use the elevator. It is really fast. She’s in the basement. It finally shows up and Michael fails to stop it because he doesn’t believe in running. Neither do I!  Laurie is outside, and gets in a car to hide. Loomis is laying the guilt trip on the woman and explains the whole spiritual sacrifices and about druids. She reveals that there was a hidden file on Meyers. She reveals that Laurie is Michael’s sister. Loomis demands that they turn around, he puts a gun to the Marhsall’s head, fires a warning shot out the window, and they turn around.

Laurie is in Jimmy’s car, and he looks like hell as he gets in his car and it’s not working. He had a concussion, no doubt. He loses consciousness and bangs his head on the horn. This was loud. Laurie tries starting it to no avail.

The marshall gets to the hospital, and Loomis asks the Marshall for help. Laurie sees them but her cries for help are weak. Then she screams after they go inside. Loomis is a bossy dick. Ha. Michael has spotted Laurie and she tries to go back in the hospital where Loomis and company just entered. Michael is closing in. Loomis with the save. Michael just walks through the door. Loomis with 3 shots, dropped Michael but he’s still breathing. Loomis orders the lady to radio for help. The Marshall gets too close like an idiot, Michael slits the Marshall’s throat. Loomis and Laurie are running and hiding. Why they don’t go back outside is beyond me. Laurie hides in the corner. Loomis tries giving her a gun, she doesn’t want it, but he leaves it there for her. Michael rips through the door. Loomis’ gun has no bullets, so Michael stabs Loomi. Now it’s down to Michael and Laurie. She shoots him twice in the head, but he is still swinging. Loomis is up. Every time he swings, Laurie whimpers like an idiot. Loomis turns the valve on ether tank, she opens up the oxygen tank valves. The room is full of shit, so Loomis says that it’s time, and he lights his lighter, and BOOM. But Michael is still walking. He finally drops a few feet shy of Laurie.

It’s morning and a ton of news reporters, and cops are there. They load Laurie in the ambulance. And we end as we began with “Mister Sandman”, bum bum bum bum.

End Film

This is one of my all-time favorite “part 2’s” of all movies. Why? Because it is a direct follow up to the original. I put this up there with Scream 2, Terminator 2, Phantasm 2, Saw 2, and a few more as far as favorite sequels. Don’t confuse favorite for best. So this had a much higher death count and that is a good thing. The original set up the story, and this gave us the incredible aftermath. Everything that happened made sense given the circumstances. Jamie Lee Curtis, I have to say this, is one of the most overrated icons of horror of all time. It annoys me at how beloved she is for her performance in the first 2. I loved her in True Lies, but she does very little for me in this franchise. This movie indulged and actually helped set the stage for the rest of the decade when it comes to excess with kills and brought us some tits. Both great decisions.   It wasn’t the first, but one of the best early 80’s examples. I liked how people separated more by chance rather than “Hey guys, we should split up” type annoying cliche. This movie just fires on all cylinders. And I haven’t even mentioned just how great Dr. Loomis was in this. SO good.

Final rating: 8.0
