Intruders (2015)

I have been curious about this film for at least 2 years.  I finally decided to give it a shot.  I feared that it would try too hard to be like The Strangers.  I was in for a delightful surprise.

The story is simple, at first.  Anna takes care of her sick and dying brother, Conrad, who dies very early on in this film.  Anna gets food delivered to her house by Dan, played by Rory Culkin, who I always enjoy.  Anna at one point offers Dan some money to make him happy since she apparently has more than she knows what to do with.  Dan politely declines.  On the day of the funeral for Conrad, Anna can’t force herself to go. She has agoraphobia and she hasn’t left the house in like 10 years.  Then 3 guys break into the house, under the assumption that Anna would be at her brother’s funeral.  From there, things get interesting.

I should note that one of the 3 guys is played by Joshua Mikel, who played Jared on The Walking Dead.  I really like him as an actor and look forward to seeing him more.  I think Beth Riesgraf did a great job as Anna.  It was an interesting role, and she nailed it.  I felt everybody played their roles really well.  Martin Starr as Perry and Jack Kesy as J.P. were both really good, I preferred Perry’s character though.

This is a good film throughout most of it.  It does lose a little steam in the final act.  I can’t explain why, but I feel like we hit a holding pattern and it’s understandable why it happens.  Story endings are rarely as good as the middle part when stuff gets busy.

Rating: 6.0 I’m pretty sure I will rewatch this, and it’s a safe pick for people.  This isn’t scary, necessarily, but it’s a good story.  I would recommend it to try something a little different.

I am doing a GoFundMe to help pay for the costs to keep 9deuce.com up and running.  I don’t make any money off of the site.  I do it because I love it, but it is expensive at times, and I had to recently renew for 3 years.  So I am asking any of my readers to consider donating if they have the extra funds.  If you don’t, I get it.  It would mean a lot to me.
