Leprechaun Returns (2018)

Leprechaun Return is a made for SyFy film. That usually isn’t a good thing. But the bar was set so incredibly low with Leprechaun 6: Back 2 Tha Hood and Leprechaun Origins that I thought that this had a chance. Let’s just say that this film exceeded my expectations.

I have to start off by stating that I am confused about why Emily Reid isn’t credited on IMDB for this film. She played the role of Meredith, arguably my favorite character. I just wrote to IMDB and submitted it to have her added to the cast list. Also, the Wikipedia entry is wrong. It lists her in one place but not the other. Very strange.

My first concern was how Linden Porco would do as a replacement to Warwick Davis. I must say, he did a very good job. I expected very bad and I feel like he did commendably. It’s one of those things where you can’t usually replace the original, but you can carve your own path. His lines were good and I enjoyed his performance.

What really surprised and delighted me were the performances by the 4 female leads. They all played their role well. I didn’t hate them. I felt that they actually added to the story and didn’t detract. Meredith was my favorite and Rose was right behind her. Taylor was a solid leading girl.

The other thing that I liked was how it was written. It properly incorporated the original film. It is a shame that they didn’t get Jennifer Aniston, but they replaced her voice and it was really good. The jokes were there, I laughed sometimes. It all kinda made some sense too, given the story and the world that it takes place. What more can you ask for from a SyFy original?

Rating: 6.2 – I didn’t expect anything above a 5. What we got was a fun complimentary film to the original. I could definitely see myself watching the original Leprechaun and this one right after. Good job by everyone.
