Maximum Overdrive (1986)

Stephen King’s first film a s a director will never be called a classic in the truest sense, but it is somewhat of a cult classic.

When you have a film with ACDC doing the soundtrack, you are doing this right. This stars Emilio Estevez, Pat Hingle, and Yeardley Smith (Voice of Lisa Simpson). We get cameos by Stephen King, Giancarlo Esposito (Gus from Breaking Bad), and Marla Maples (former wife of Donald Trump). How’s that for star power?

Then there is the story and the one liners. Earth passes through the tail of Rea-M comet, and therefore all of the machines start operating on their own. You know how that happens every few years. The dialogue is fantastic. From Hendershot calling everybody Bubba, to the waitress, Wanda, yelling at the trucks “We made you!!!”, to Emilio and Brett talking all romantic, and even the ATM calling Stephen King an asshole.

The toy truck has a sweet goblin face on the front, and it actually creeped me out a bit as a kid. The kids getting run over by the steam roller, the soda machine killing the coach, and the electric knife cutting Wanda, there’s just so much to love. If you don’t like this movie, I totally understand, but I don’t think we can be friends.  If you could make a Kent movie, this would be it.

Rating – 7.7 It’s my ratings and I say that this film is fucking brilliant!
