A horror movie starring James Woods and directed by David Cronenberg…..HELL YES. I love the few movies I have seen of David’s, so fingers crossed here.
James Woods name is Max. Max just looked at 2 pics with topless women, not sure if it is the same chick, for right now, I think it is. Max is meeting with 2 Asian men. The pics were for a TV show that he is interested in picking up. Samurai something and it was her tits. Woods and his posse decide that the show was too soft. Woods wants something harder. He has, Harlan, find a signal with a show, and we see 2 guards like torturing a chick, and we see her tits. Sooo, 2 pairs now. Max’s network show softcore porn and hardcore violence. This is discussed on a talk show. This is funny. They talk about these shows desensitizing people. Also, Max was flirting with the girl who was there to oppose him.
Apparently the feed with the torture is coming from Pittsburgh. Oh man, this girl on the radio, the same that he hit on on the show, her fucking outfit, my goodness. He brings her home and she wants to see porn to put her in the mood. Instead, she watches Videodrome, the show with the torture, another nude girl getting flogged, and this bitch is getting turned on. She wants him to cut her on the shoulder, she already has marks. Wow, I wasn’t expecting this type of film. I think her name is Nicki by the way. Well, Nicki and Max are nude on a sheet on a floor. He has a needle or pin, and he pierces her ear, licks off the blood pierces the other one and they make out. I saw boob, and these two go at it. I don’t even know where they are now. I think the room from the TV show. Wow, crazy.
Max meets with Masha, and I see 2 pairs of boobs. Masha is bringing him some softcore stuff. He says that he needs edgier. He tells her that Videodrome is the next big thing. Masha asks him if he ever considered producing his own show, and he says no. She asks what kind of show he would do.
Nicki is going on assignment to Pittsburgh. She is looking great. Max tells her to stay away, and she likes the challenge. Nicki just put a cig on her left tit and burned herself. She wants him to do her right one. Fuck 50 Shades man.
Max is meeting Masha, there is a belly dancer at this restaurant perhaps. Masha says to avoid Videodrome, it could be very political, it’s real, it’s snuff. He doesn’t believe it. He wants a name to contact about Videodrome. She gives him Brian Oblivion, and he appears on the TV interview earlier and said he doesn’t like TV. Interesting.
Max goes to a mission, and there are lots of TV on. This is weird. He finds the Professor’s daughter and asks to see him. In this room that she brings him has a ton of neat religious stuff. Her dad won’t talk to him for a conversation. He will only send a video, which makes conversing difficult. So he tells her to mention Videodrome to her dad.
His receptionist, Bridey maybe her name, she stops by. Apparently Nicki is not on assignment, and she had requested a month off. She goes to switch tapes, and he gets all weird and tells her not to touch it and slaps her. What the deuce man? OK, he fantasized slapping Nicki. OK. He apologizes to Bridey for hitting her, and she says that he didn’t. She offers to stay the night. Oh, the other tape is from the Professor. He picks up and it like bent. This may not be easy to describe as it gets weirder. I am going to stop, kick back and enjoy.
Sweet, he has an Atari. His TV is like pulsating and Nicki is on the screen saying that she wants him. His reality is being distorted. Oh man, that was just weird. He just like made out with the TV. The signal from Videodrome causes a brain tumor which causes the hallucinations. Shit, Professor has been dead for 11 months. Bianca, his daughter has a room full of tapes and that is how she keeps him alive. He asks Harlan if he’s been hallucinating, and he says no. Max watches the tapes that Bianca gave him, and as he watched, his abdominal area slowly grows a vagina. He has been scratching the area with a gun. Now he sticks his gun and now his hand. He is fisting himself, and it’s all a hallucination. The music is excellent in this by the way. He gets a call, and there is a car downstairs waiting for him. There’s a video from Barry Convex, who owns a company that makes Videodrome, and missiles.
Barry wants Max to use a machine, and this will record Max’s hallucinations, and then run an analysis. I just stopped writing. I had to focus on the film. We go on a trip where Max basically goes on a killing spree, learns as much truth as there is about the Videodrome, and it is just chaotic. I hate to just not offer much more of a synopsis, but just fucking watch the movie. Trust me.

I’m not going to try to dissect and analyze what this movie was saying about sex, violence, and TV, but if you watch it, you will get the point. It’s very good the whole way through, and I dig James Woods performance a lot. Birdie was my 2nd fav character with Harlan in 3rd. The visual effects were awesome and trippy. This is the sort of film you may want to own and show it to friends who have never seen it. I really liked it.
