The Damned (2013)

This is about a flash flood, and a family finding shelter, but they disobey the owner’s orders. OK, sounds cheesy enough. I have to note, halfway through this, I had a bloody nose, so I wasn’t keeping up so well typing with one hand, but I was a hardcore trooper. I did it For The Watch!

Some guy is seen with his back to a door and something is trying to get in. The voiceover talks about keeping secrets. Let’s roll the credits. The credits are kinda creepy, lots of writing, wood, nails. I liked it.

A dude had a dream with a lady in a hospital bed, some blood and he screaming why. He is in bed with some chick, I will assume his wife. The guy grabs a camera and takes pictures of roofs. She wakes up, and they are British. They are in Bogota, Colombia. There is a fake news report, and the girls speaking Spanish and they appear American. They seem all happy. Oh, one of the girl’s dad is the first dude. Jill is the daughter, and Gina is Jill’s aunt. David is the dad, Lauren is his girlfriend, and soon to be wife, and Ramon is the friend of Gina. David is not British, thankfully.

A cop turns on his siren behind them. He tells them that they are not going a safe route to Medellin. He warns of flooding and whatnot. Gina is insistent that this road is safe, so she is gonna be wrong wrong wrong. David isn’t paying attention during a flash flood, gets the van stuck, and then a wave sends the van tumbling down the side. They see a house in the distance, and it is huge.

A guy comes to the door and says that the inn is closed. Lauren has been hurt in the accident. The guy allows them in, well duh. Jill has a nasty gash on her forehead. Lauren’s ribs may be hurt. He sees Jill’s crucifix and says that will not protect her. Nice. David is going with the guy, Felipe, to get wood. Felipe insists that everybody stays there. The last guest in the registry is from 1978 and he has no phone, his phone line has been cut.  Jill has to go to the bathroom, so Ramon goes. Lauren has a really bad bruise on her ribs. Jill and Ramon go upstairs, and he is awfully flirty with her. They finally find the bathroom.

There are cockroaches in the shower drain. She hears a little girl saying “help me” from the floor pipe, so they need to find here. The guys return and Felipe is pissed that Jill and Ramon left. Ramon is not keen on this idea, and Felipe comes looking for them with an axe. He looks in this cellar, with like the storm door. Jill and Ramon see this, so they decide to go down there. Yup, always a good idea. They find a bathroom down there. They find a door with a padlock on it. They see a hand come out of the opening and a female’s eye. The girl’s name is Ana Marie. I will just call her Ana. Ramon starts trying to break the lock, and Felipe is like, don’t or he will kill you. He pulls a gun on them David knocks Felipe out with a shovel. They remove the padlock. Lots of roaches and this little girl.

They bring Ana and Felipe upstairs. Gina wants to film this because she does the news. Lauren is cleaning up Ana. Ana says that she is hungry. I think everybody is separated now. Gina is in the basement with her camera. She enters Ana’s box, it smells bad and there are inscriptions on the ceiling and a creepy doll, and more roaches. Lauren is in the kitchen and Ana shows up all creepy out of nowhere and takes off so Lauren follows.

Felipe is yelling at David. Felipe says they are all damned or dead, I assume damned. David then gags him. Lauren is looking for Ana upstairs. Now we have our first “scary buildup” of the hallway, quiet, and very little noise. She finds a girl’s bedroom and the tricycle was just moving. What is this: Nightmare on Cambodia Street? Lots of creepy dolls in here. She sees Ana in the mirror behind her and she takes off again. Ana locks the door. Ana shows up next to a very scared Felipe, and she grabs a letter opener. She calls him dad. He says to leave the family alone.  She yells at him for praying like Ines who was always praying and it didn’t do her any good. She slaps her dad and has a demonic vibe going. She also asked who was stronger: David or Ramon.

Ramon is trying to fix Felipe’s car. Ana is outside enjoying the rain, and Gina brings her inside. Gina is trying to film all of them. A rocking chair started rocking. Felipe comes in charging God Forgive me, and he had the letter opener. Ramon shot him. Felipe had already slit his wrists. Ana smiles. So many questions from Gina. We are at the halfway point.

David is trying to help Lauren with her injury. Lauren says that when the rain lets up, for David to hike into town. Ana just groped Jill’s boob and rubbed her leg and says that she has a strong body. Jill is starting to question how Felipe ever even fed her. Jill is the smart one in all of this. Gina is trying to interview Ana like an obnoxious bitch. She can die first….after getting topless. Gina is drinking some found booze. Ana shows up behind her with Gina’s cell phone and asks her questions. She asks who Trevor is, who is Gina’s boss. She asks if he knows that she killed his baby. She says that Trevor will be pissed. Gina takes the phone and sees a baby video. Ana wants to know if she is proud, and then she touches her belly, something is protruding, and Ana gets the demonic voice, and that was it. OK.

Jill says the writing on the ceiling is too high for Ana to have reached, also they find a skeleton. The skeleton was Felipe’s wife. We find an old picture of Felipe and his wife and child Ana, from 78. Ana’s throat has been slashed in the kitchen. Gina swears that somebody else is there. David says that they need to stick together now. Jill is happy that Ana is dead. Everybody is pissed at her for saying that.

Gina is insistent on finding a cell reception, so her and Ramon go. Jill sees somebody. It’s the cop that pulled them over. They show him Felipe’s body. He wants David, Jill, and Lauren to go downstairs. This cop is frantic, almost scared, Gina drops her phone and now wants to warm up with Ramon. They get the cop’s gun. Gina is possessed, and Gina brings up Ramon being a drug mule, which was a secret. The cop knows what is happening and how she is evil. Gina just showed a boob. She starts kissing him. She passed it on and he is puking blood. Ramon breaks her neck and I assume he has it now, or not, Gina just got up all freaky. Sweet. Gina is still possessed.  If you kill this witch, she goes to your body. Felipe’s wife was the witch? The cop says that the spirit is in Ramon now that he shot Gina, and it’s true.

Some writing about the Spanish Inquisition. The cop goes to kill Ramon. This is why Felipe slit his wrist. So these are descendants of those responsible for killing the original with I guess. The spirit just wants to kill the descendants. Ana hears Gina and says Ramon tried killing her, then does the demon voice. It was Ramon and he wants the cop. The family tries to leave in the cop’s vehicle. Ramon is in there. Lauren handcuffs Ramon and pushes the vehicle into the water. David tries stopping it, but Ramon dies, so now Lauren is possessed.  Lauren said that David unplugged the life support on Jill’s mom because she wouldn’t die fast enough.

They bring her back to the house. The cops say that they have to seal Lauren up in the box. She takes an out of the cop. The cops shoot but don’t faze her. David is going after Lauren now in the basement I think. Maybe upstairs, I don’t fucking know. I think downstairs. Lauren has a scythe. She kills the cop. She wants David to kill her, but David won’t so Lauren attacks Jill. OK, David and Jill are in the basement. David is going to try to get her in the box.

Lauren is just walking above talking shit while we have a father and daughter moment. He tells Jill to hide. Lauren is downstairs now. Lauren changes her appearance to that of David’s ex, Marcella. He shoots her. Jill shoots Lauren before David can kill himself. Jill walks into the box and tells him to shut the door. Oh for fuck’s sake. Stop hugging and lock her in the fucking box. He sits there for 20 seconds whining instead of locking the box. I hate him. He wrestles with her and finally closes the box, but he has no lock.  David says he will find a way to bring Jill home. Yup, uh-huh.

End film.

I was a little woozy and didn’t give this my full attention, but thinking about it, I liked it. It had some slow points, but it told a really decent little story about witches and possession and stuff of that nature. I liked how everything wrapped up nicely from all of the loose ends. It is absolutely worth a watch, and I would watch it again.
